Motorcycle Maintenance 101


Learn how to do routine maintenance and emergency repairs on your bike.

This is a four-hour course that provides riders the instruction and hands-on experience needed to properly maintain their motorcycles, as well as to perform emergency repairs on the trail. Students bring their own motorcycles and supplies. Tools will be provided. Topics covered include:

  • The components that make up your motorcycle.
  • Basic adjustments for control, comfort, and fit.
  • Pre-Ride Inspection (T-CLOCS)
  • Basic maintenance (fluids, cable inspections, chain maintenance, free-play adjustments, replacing light bulbs, air filter, battery, levers, tires, etc)
  • Cleaning the motorcycle
  • Tools needed for your tool kit
  • Flat repair
  • Tire mounting and balancing

The maintenance  course will pay for itself again and again. This 4-hour course costs less than one hour shop rate at your bike shop which ranges  from $60.00 to $100.00 per hour. This course will enable you to identify most needed repairs and perform detailed pre-ride inspections  and regular service that can help avoid a dangerous accident or costly breakdown caused by poor condition. You will learn how to do basic service and inspections using common tools and become better educated about your motorcycle. You will also learn how to fix a flat on the trail. An experienced mechanic/instructor will present course information and answer your questions about maintenance. Students are invited to bring their own motorcycle, perform an inspection and complete routine maintenance with advice from our instructors. Students will come away with the knowledge that may help prevent costly repairs.


  • Students are invited bring their own motorcycle which must be properly licensed and insured (A motorcycle can be provided).
  • Students wishing to do their own oil change will need to bring oil, and oil filter, spark plugs and owners manual for their motorcycle (this will be limited to one request per class)
  • Students wishing to mount a new tire need to bring a new tire, tube, and weights. (limited to 1 request per class)
